2013 Music Scholarship Winners Announced

Bernie Worrell presents proceeds from the World Of Originality's 5th Annual Local and Legend Music Festival to Bridgewater-Raritan High School students, Estiven Ulate and Hayley Orlando. Worrell says, "It feels good to be part of a team of people helping our youth to further their education in the arts; it's a blessing for me & everyone involved."

Estiven Ulate is a senior at Bridgewater-Raritan High School where he sings in the audition Symphonic Choir, the Glee Club ,and a Men's A Cappella Choir. He plans to attend Westminster Choir College of Rider University to study Music Education. Estiven is very grateful to be awarded this honor and looks forward to using this scholarship to further his musicianship.

Hayley Orlando is currently a senior at Bridgewater-Raritan High School. She has been active in instrumental music since the 5th grade and is very involved in the music program at the high school. Hayley plays numerous instruments including the tenor sax, clarinet, guitar, and piano. Currently, Hayley plays bass clarinet in the high school wind ensemble and was the drum major for  the 2013 BRHS marching band. This past summer, Hayley was the assistant drum major for the 2013 Cadets2 Drum and Bugle Corps. Hayley wishes to pursue a career in music therapy.

Bernie Worrell

Bernie Worrell was a child prodigy who began studying piano at the tender age of three, performed his first Classical Concert at age four, wrote his first concerto at age eight, and performed with the Washington Symphony Orchestra at ten. His classical studies included private lessons at the Juilliard School of Music, before he entered the New England Conservatory of Music, majoring in Classical Piano.

Simply stated, Bernie Worrell is a Master Keyboardist, a founding member of original Parliament/Funkadelic and keyboard wizard whose liquid lines deftly steered P-Funk straight to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame.

A master of improvisation, Steve Kimock has been inspiring music fans with his transcendent guitar speak, voiced through electric, acoustic, lap and pedal steel guitars. While one can say that his genre is rock, no one niche has ever confined him.
